In December 2014, the Dwane and Velma Wallace Foundation awarded Senior Services of Wichita a grant that continues to benefit the organization to this day.

According to the Senior Services of Wichita development director Chris Heiman, “Support from the Wallace Foundation is an endorsement of excellence for all projects they chose to support. The name provides validity and helps build new relationships of support within the community.”

The Wallace Foundation grant awarded in 2014 was applied to start-up funding to renovate and rebuild the current Senior Services of Wichita campus located at 200 South Walnut. The original facility is decades old and has required more than $100,000 in maintenance and repair over the years, including $40,000 to brace and secure the structure.

Since 1968, Senior Services of Wichita has made a positive difference in the lives of seniors, serving just under 9,000 each year.

As a private, non-profit, non-government organization, Senior Services of Wichita provides recreation, life-enhancing events, meaningful employment, caregiver support, health and nutrition, and more. Senior Services of Wichita also provides social gatherings, sports competitions, yoga classes, a mentor program, in-home respite care and Meals on Wheels. The renovation and rebuilding of the Senior Services of Wichita facility assures the growing Baby Boomer senior population and others are well supported for years to come.

“The Wallace Foundation is an asset to our community as a whole,” said Heiman. “The family is committed to continuing the legacy built by Dwane and Velma.”

Founded by Dwane and Velma Wallace in 1989, the Wallace Foundation’s mission is to support a wide variety of tax-exempt, charitable organizations primarily in the Wichita, Kansas area, and secondarily in the state of Kansas, in the categories of: arts and culture, education, community development and enhancement, social services and needs, and quality of life.
