Changing Lives. One-to-One.

Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters (KSBBBS) operates under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. What sets us apart from other mentoring organizations is that we provide one-to-one mentoring. This means we match one volunteer with one child. We are not an afterschool program. Instead, our unique program helps develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of Kansas kids.

Mission

Provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Vision

All children achieve success in life.

Measurable Impact

Here’s the proof. National research shows that positive relationships between Littles and their Bigs have a direct and measurable impact on children’s lives. By participating in our programs, Little Brothers and Sisters are:

  • More confident in their schoolwork performance
  • Able to get along better with their families
  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
  • 52% less likely to skip school

Our Agency

KSBBBS partners with parents, grandparents, guardians, schools, corporations, and others in the community to pair children (“Littles”) with carefully screened and trained volunteer mentors (“Bigs”). Each one of these relationships is monitored and professionally supported by a Match Support Specialist focused on creating a healthy bond. KSBBBS’ mentoring program has a proven, positive impact on our youth in the areas of academics, behavioral outcomes, graduation rates, avoidance of juvenile delinquency, and college or career readiness.

In 2001, KSBBBS began serving children in 93 counties through the unification of formerly independent BBBS agencies. Now statewide, KSBBBS provides nearly 6,000 children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Since 1998, the support of the Dwane L. and Velma Lunt Wallace Charitable Foundation made it possible for 356 Kansas kids to be matched with the one-to-one mentor they so needed and deserved. Thank you for changing lives!
